Editorial Services

Line Editing

Involves editing the overall flow and pacing of the story. The editor works line-by-line, attending to sentence structure so the language is sharp and clear. We look closely at how the writing on the syntax level contributes to the tone, emotion and overall message of the story.

Sample Manuscript Edit

Sample edit that includes line editing, copyediting, proofreading, and developmental editing for a maximum of 1000 words.

Copy Editing

An editing style that focuses on accuracy and clarity of the book. Copyediting focuses on things like consistency in the story line (i.e., it was just Monday morning why are they attending a Friday night hockey game) and in stylistic choices (i.e., you used β€œAM” and then 9 chapters later used  a.m.).

Proofreading

AKA your favorite 9th grade English teacher. Here the editor looks for pesky typos, grammatical errors, and other formatting issues.

Developmental Editing

Big picture items of your book: plot, tropes, character formation, structure, etc. We look at potential plot holes, character arcs, pacing, dialogue, etc. This is best done in the early stages, but can also involve editing a manuscript that is already being written.
